from our workshop: cha winter sneak peek #4

a few more goodies to share from our latest CHA winter release!

we've gotten LOTS of requests for more metal embellishments so we just had to pull together 2 new sets. The gypsy frames and tiny flea market findings.

And a new set of journal pages~ we incorporated some of our favorite elements from Trousseau into a 2 sided set of journal pages.  These fit perfectly inside all of our small vintage book covers AND the new small vintage frame cover shown on the left.

Look at this gorgeous mixed media tray using our collage tissues and the new Trousseau journal pages!

More of the Vintage Frame Covers in a larger size~ these were designed to allow for binding along the top.  You can see how cool they look with a vintage photo tucked inside the opening on the front cover.

Once you've complete a new journal with the frame covers you can display it in our new Vintage Book Stand.  It's designed to hold a book, 5x7 photo or even a cleverly crafted sign... we were inspired by the vintage sign holders we've seen at flea markets and this stand was a HUGE hit at CHA!

guest post: ellen hutson!

Easy Gifts for the Holidays
by ellen hutson
Thank you 7gypsies for the privilege of sharing these projects with your readers! With the holiday season upon us I thought it would be fun to share several ideas that I think would make perfect gifts.
The first project is this fun little "message center!" Using the solo shadowbox together with the wonderful display trims it was quick and easy to create this fun accessory for my home.
displaying Santa photos is something we love to do at our house - the letterpress tray is perfect for showcasing these special photos.
the optical lens can be turned into a fabulous customized ornament. what a wonderful gift this would be for a grandparent! simply create a custom rub-on of your child's silhouette, add a date and hang on their tree!
you can find complete instructions for these projects at the following links:

from the studio of: sande krieger

photo shadowbox tray
by sande krieger
we love the way sande always create such fabulous-detailed projects!
so many elements were put into this tray that we just HAD to ask her to tell us all about it....

sande: I had all these fabulous family photos that my friend Terra had taken of us but wasn't sure how I wanted to display them since there were so many that I loved from the shoot.
Then along came the photo tray which solved my dilemma.  It had plenty of photo-sized windows so that I could put my favorites in and still have just enough room to put my vintage spin on it so that it would fit in nicely with the rest of my decor.
To add dimension, I used the metal hooks and loops to tie and hang things from. To add texture, I used a metal #5 (we have 5's all over our house), the 7Gypsies optical lens, domino, #8 medallion, metal clock hands, the 7Gypsies studs, waxed string, 7Gypsies charm, 7Gypsies ruler and some rhinestones.

The easel is perfect for displaying the tray in my living room on the sofa table since I have no wall space to hang it.

gypsies: thank you sande for sharing your creation with us!!!

projects and inspiration: christmas gift ideas!

is it really almost Thanksgiving gypsies? PHEW!
time sure does pass quickly, sometimes quicker then some of us would like....

we are getting soooo excited for christmas here in the gypsy workshop,
our design team has already been busy creating a few gift ideas for our fellow gypsies...
this adorable ticket holder full of daily reminders was created by our gypsy Mou! can you see all those new years resolutions stuffed in here?
or little quotes for a beautiful way to remind someone to smile!! we love how she placed the rulers on the front...
paula created this inspiration board made from our 4x6 photo tray! don't you just love how she has the glass placed over the sections to create a "pocket" to store all those fun trinkets that inspire you!
add a little cork board to other sections and voila!
and don't forget about the gorgeous butterfly rubbings - swooooon.
didn't paula do such a great job?!?! we think so...
ohhhh who doesn't love a convenient recipe book - that is THIS adorable?!?!
so simple - our gypsy ann used a book cover for the back and front, then using the clear sleeves and tabs that come with the 4x6 photo stand to store the recipes. the clear sleeves protect the sacred recipes from messy cooking - because we all know creative cooking is always a mess :)
keep following gypsies we will be posting some more gift ideas throughout next week!

gypsy secret: tray guide & measurements

Some of the questions we hear most at the gypsy workshop are usually about our trays.
Gypsies everywhere want to know which tray we recommend most, what colors the trays come in and most importantly what SIZE the compartments are on each of the tray styles.

Did you know we sell 10 different trays and that doesn't even include our collection of librarie drawers and vintage receipt holders?

Well~ we've finally decided it might be time to showcase them all in one place!
We've put together the official guide to all 7gypsies trays
(even our newest~ yet to be shipped styles)
colors, their measurements and our recommended uses.
But if you've got more tray ideas, secrets or tips you'd like to share, please comment!
Enjoy!

Artist Printers Tray (the original 1st tray in our line!):
available in black or white
recommended for beginning tray artists
great for: wallet sized photos, ATC cards & exchanges, 12 months of the year, advent calendars,  we even saw a great project that showcased a wallet sized photo of each year of school K-12!
4x6 Photo Tray:
available in white or black
recommended for beginning tray artists
great for: 4x6 photos, recipes, card storage.  This is our most basic style of tray and recommended for first time tray artists.  It is easy to complete by simply filling with your favorite photos.  Add some embellishments for more layering or leave as a custom photo display.  Either way, this is a super simple and unique piece of home decor!

Letterblock Tray:
available in brown or black
recommended for intermediate tray artists
great for: multiple sized items, small photos, trinkets, most finished projects in this tray are a real show stopper because all of the different sized compartments make this interesting to look at an explore what's in all of the little openings!

Letterpress Shadowbox Tray:
available in dark stain
recommended for intermediate tray artists
great for: showcasing dimensional items such as bottles, keys, spools, etc.  We created our shadowbox line of trays especially for adding dimension for an extra authentic touch.  With its drawer pull style handle, this tray is most true to the original letterpress trays that we drew inspiration from when creating this line!  And the beautiful, rich stain finish looks beautiful as a part of any home decor!
Solo Shadowbox Tray:
available in black and white
BRAND NEW~ ships in August
recommended for beginning tray artists, the perfect starter tray!
great for: GIFTING!  This darling mini version of our shadowbox trays makes a unique and custom gift for lots of occasions.  Think baby showers, weddings, engagements, grandparents, fathers, mothers, dads, grads, sisters, girlfriends, school teachers.  It's simple to create one by just adding a 4x6 photo and a few mini trinkets.  This one is selling fast for the holidays!

Photo Shadowbox Tray:
available in black
BRAND NEW~ ships in september
recommended for beginning/intermediate tray artists
great for:  a quick, custom photo display gallery.  This shadowbox was designed specifically to hold standard sized photos.  So even though it looks complex with lots of different compartments, you can simply slip your favorite 4x6's, 5x7 and wallet sized photos in with just a few openings left to fill with your favorite dimensional trinkets.  This is part of our shadowbox line of trays so it is built with extra depth to hold many kinds of findings: bottles, shells, baby booties, and more.  It looks great displayed on our new easel!

Display Easel:
available in black
BRAND NEW~ ships in September
great for: ALL 7gypsies trays to be showcased in your home.  But not only do our trays look fabulous on this wooden easel, so do framed photographs, layouts, books and more!

caught on film: show it in a shadowbox!

Last week we were invited over to studio 5 to share our passion for shadowboxes with their viewers.  We jumped at the chance before we stopped to think about it being recorded LIVE!  Needless to say we were a bit terrified when the cameras started rolling but thrilled we got the chance to show off some of our best shadowboxes.

AND we were lucky enough to snag a link to the video so you can watch too!

Watch as we show you how easy it is to create a meaningful shadowbox that tells YOUR story.   It's easier than you think.  And we also demo a project using the BRAND NEW solo shadowbox tray.

Once you see the new solo tray in action you'll be itching to get one of your own and GUESS what...

we're going to give 7 of them away in August

We'll be posting contest details in just a couple of days so be sure to check back!

A big thank you to all of our creative team for creating the amazing projects featured in the segment...

NEW display trims?

Remember our sneak peak of the new display trims from CHA Winter?
We're excited to announce that they are all in stock and available at the 7gypsies online store!

If you're not quite sure just what the display trims are, here's some inspiration:

In the project above you can see what a fabulous finishing touch the corners and dome studs add to this gorgeous wedding tray display.

  • All trims come in both antique silver and antique brass finishes.
  • They're also self-adhering, so all you have to do is peel of the backing and apply to your favorite display!

A detail of the corners.  They come packaged with 12 corners...  4 Large and 8 small!

Below you'll see a closer look at the studs, um no, not THOSE kind of studs.
But hey, we think these are drool worthy too!

They come in 2 styles: dome and pyramid
both are available in antique silver and antique brass

dome studs

pyramid studs

We've seen these used in many different ways.

The most "traditional" is to place them at the dividing points in the tray partitions as shown below

But they also make great embellishments:
check out the 5 below

You can also spot them in the arrow:

and if you look closely you'll see one on the wrist of the pointing hand! (so cute)

We even found this posted on our facebook wall by one of our fellow gypsies!
A cool card for father's day (see the studs on the rocket?)

courtesy of www.ellenhutson.com

And remember these Loops & Hooks?

We designed these clever trims to hang embellishment from your trays.
No drilling needed~ just stick them in place!

See?

And leave it to gypsy artist Sande Kreiger to find new creative ways to use the Loops and Hooks:

See the 2 loops holding the chain in place?

She also used loops on each side of the tray opening to hang a banner from:
