collage tissue garland and a new gypsy baby!!!

We are very excited to announce the arrival of our newest gypsy baby!
Lillian Belle
the sweet new addition to our caravan.
Congrats proud gypsy mama Amber!

We created a collage tissue paper garland to celebrate.
So cute, so simple, so 7gypsies!

Here's how we did it!

materials used:
modpodge
glitter
7gypsies collage tissues: birdsong and life
any 7gypsies chipboard alphabet & number set
scrap piece of chipboard

cover chipboard letters/numbers with glue and sprinkle on glitter~ repeat as needed
cut a 1"x 20" strip of life collage tissue for each letter you are using
cut a 3"x3" square of birdsong collage tissue for each letter
cut a 2 1/4" inch circle out of the chipboard for each letter

crinkle up each of the life tissue strips

cover the chipboard circles with a thin, even coat of mod podge

carefully lay birdsong collage tissue square on top of mod podged circle
and gently smooth out wrinkles.
sand around edge of circle to remove excess tissue or wrap around back and mod podge in place.

apply a generous layer of mod podge around back edge of tissue covered circle

begin pleating one of the collage tissue strips around the edge of the circle

backside view of pleating collage tissue around the edge of circle

adhere glittered alphabet letter to front of circle.
repeat all steps for each letter.

Once you have each tissue circles completed~ connect them with 7gypsies crystal dangles and finish off ends with seam binding ribbon!

The wait is over
March Guest Designer
and
New Design Team Member
Mou Saha
Mou created a fabulous stacked accordion using bright colored paint, Avignon paper and lots of other gypsy goodness.  Her vision of what can be done with a simple accordion album is fresh and packed with techniques that can be applied to any number of projects.  So sit back and enjoy...Mou Saha has joined the gypsy caravan and we couldn't be happier.
Welcome!

Step-by-step Instructions:
1. Paint the front of the stacked accordion. Dangle a key and binding ring drop on a Gypsy tag tied together with seam binding ribbons. Embellish with stickers, tapes and paper.
2. Create 'bases' for the page inserts with patterned papers trimmed to fit,  photos, stickers, tags, traced tags and paint.
3. Add chipboard letters, more stickers, stamping and ephemera to embellish. Journal and tie everything together with a little more paint.
4. Make tabs with gaffer and paper tapes, stickers, seam binding ribbons, etc.
Notice what Mou did with the ATC & Photo Display shapes of a little bird and a pear? ...she used them as a template to cut out the shape in patterned paper and then adhered the patterned paper over the creme cardstock.  Clever.

Here's how it looks
Here she filled in the negative space with paint and lettering.  What a great technique!

Makes you want to pick up your paint brush doesn't it?

Creative Escape-Chapter 2

The Project-Hidden Treasures
Here is the project that our students made. It was created using 1 package of 7gypsies 8 x 8 book board. The final size when complete is 10 x 10. You can see in the next few pictures that the piece has two hiding places for extra pictures or journaling.
The students were asked to bring their own black and white photos so each project had a different feel to it. One of the best things for us was being able to walk around and see the students fabulous pictures. We saw babies and weddings, heritage photos and favorite pets. It really spoke to the flexibility of the project. It was also a great way to meet your neighbor that might be from another state or country. No matter where your from or what your situation we can all identify with each other through photographs.

Host a Gypsy!

Did you know we have a whole band of gypsies that love to pack up their trunks and travel to teach gypsy classes all over the world?

They're called our 7gypsies certified instructors and their classes are nothing short of pure gypsy goodness.  If you've ever wondered what it would be like to learn how to create like one of the gypsies, then tell your local scrapbooking store to host one of our many traveling gypsies!

We've got two of our instructors busy collecting trinkets and stuffing their pouches in preparation for some inspiring workshops in Arizona.  Here's a little preview of what they'll be creating...

"Junk Gypsy"
will be taught by Debbie Crouse & Paula Cheney
at Embellish Scrapbook Boutique in Lakeside, Arizona on May 13

"Good Things" ATC spinner class
will be taught by Debbie Crouse and Paula Cheney
at Embellish Scrapbook Boutique on May 14th

"Fat & Fabulous"
will be taught by Debbie Crouse & Paula Cheney
at Crafty Papers in Phoenix, Arizona on May 16th

"Totally Random Times"
will be taught by Melodee Langworthy throughout the rest of 2009

And we've recently caught wind of the buzz that mixed media & fiber artist Suzi Brown is using 7gypsies papers, gaffer tape and assorted embellishment in many of her upcoming classes at the Kimball Arts Center located in Park City, Utah!
