Postale Librarie Drawer
When I spied the Postale Collection from 7 Gypsies, I was so excited to be asked to create this project! I wanted to recreate the look of a cherished box of letters tied with ribbons, chock full of photos, ephemera, tickets, tags, memories, all tied up with pretty ribbons and buttons. The key for me was to work within the Postale palette. When you are pulling together supplies for this project, look for things you already have that will work with the palette - the addition of the vintage buttons, the trims etc. give an authentic feel to this project and is also visually pleasing. You'll love and cherish the finished project!

Instructions
1. Use a Phillips screwdriver to unscrew the screws on the metal handle of the Librarie Drawer. Remove hardware and set aside.
2. Cover the front of the librarie drawer with Nottinghill Gaffer Tape, trim to fit.
3. Replace the metal handle on the face of the drawer, the screws will pierce the gaffer tape as they are screwed back in.
4. Assemble the drawer contents adding postale envelopes, inserts and photos. Journal on some of the inserts, you can adhere photos directly to the insert or envelopes and add journaling as well. Address the envelopes if you like, add vintage postage stamps. Use your imagination - you're creating a letter box full of memories!
5. Add other ephemera from your stash - letters, tickets, tags.
6. Tie mini postal envelopes with red and white baker's twine, securing the centers with a vintage button.
7. For the very front portion of the drawer, layer the tag envelope shown on top of the postale index card shown. Use a circle punch to punch out a photo and center it within the circle on the tag envelope. Add the A sticker from the 97% Complete Stickers to the left side of the postale index card. Use a small circle punch to punch a half circle on the left side of the index card.
8. I wanted the drawer to look as if it contained stacks of old letters and cards, tied together with ribbons. To imitate this look, you can stack journaling cards/envelopes/photos/ephemera of similar size and tie them together with ribbon as shown.  Repeat this several times to give the drawer fullness.
9. Lots of little touches bring the drawer to life - add paper tape on the Naked Sidetabs, use paperclip dangles on the envelopes and inserts, fashion a rosette from fabric trim with a few stitches and a button for a center. The key is to add lots of color in the postale palette - look for the reds, whites and blues that make up the postale palette and bring those in through selecting trims and vintage embellishments in the same palette.
10. You can add a petit carnet from 7gypsies in the back, mine was from a previous project and it fit nicely in the drawer for storage.

look what we got: shadowboxes!

we LOVE shadowboxes
we've always had a passion for shadowboxes.
in the past we've seen gypsies everywhere creating these from scratch with sections made from cardboard or wood - now we have these beautiful wood shadowboxes that are perfect for home decor!

both the 12x12 and 8x8 shadowboxes and the inserts are in stock and shipping now!!
the 12x12 shadowbox is perfect for adding depth and dimension to a 12x12 layout.
we love all the layers Vicki Boutin has added to her shadowbox
our 8x8 shadowbox in a natural wood color is perfect in so many ways.
you can leave it as is, use our 8x8 papers as a backdrop to build from or paint and distress!

if you've never worked on a shadowbox, but would love to give it a shot, adding one of our inserts is the perfect first step to giving yourself some creative imagination.
Paula Cheney did such a fantastic job displaying her favorite parts of the Trousseau line papers or some words or even a picture. the bottles, beads and block add the dimension desired for her shadowbox creation!

2 lille layouts done 2 ways!

We've enjoyed reading the emails, comments and posts filled with your love for all things Lille
(we are equally as smitten with this CHA Winter collection)

There's just something about the way the different elements of sketches, ephemera findings,
documents and bold letters combined in the Lille papers that make this a fun collection to work with.

To show you just how different this collection can look depending on your style, we're
highlighting 2 layouts that were created with the same collection but with very different results!

First up is one that pulls in the layers, techniques and art journal
inspired elements we see emerging in all kinds of projects.

See how adding layers of paints, photos, rubbings, chipboard alphabets and tags to
the 12x12 paper really gives it a creative mess meets fantastic results?

Don't be intimidated by the look of this, it's all about experimentation and playing with inks,
paints, pen strokes and we just happen to think that the Lille collection lends itself to this look.

BUT...

If this isn't a style that works for you, check out what another 7gypsies artist was
able to do with elements from the Lille collection as well.  It's a much cleaner look that
incorporates both Lille and Conservatory collections with a few found elements.

look at how adorable our industrial gears look as the flower center?

A teeny tiny peak...

Gypsies!

We are VERY excited to start sharing the official peak from our workshop of some of the newest products just in time for CHA.  This collection has already got gypsies from all over the world ooohing and aaaaahing and it is available in stores now??

YES, you read it right, you can start playing with brand new 7gypsies now!
Hold on! Before you run off to order yours...

We know every gypsy loves a good story, so here's a little snippet of our collections from the journey... Lille

This bold, vintage meets art journal meets gypsy collection was inspired by one of our many journeys through France.  Wanderings in the Northern province drew us along the cool river and many quaint parks nestled in the heart of this little city.  The public transit lines bustled alongside us and brought with them the anticipatory energy that accompanies a great adventure on terrain yet to be walked by the gypsies.

The historic architecture consumed our views and revealed intricate detailing with splashes of red declaring itself in the underlying stone and vivid window frames or doors marking the many breathtaking buildings.

The afternoon was spent reveling in the visual extravaganza of the legal graffiti walls juxtaposed against the historical districts.  It was a harmonious union of old meets new, chaos meets calm and the perfect setting for creating our next collection of art papers:
abundance. adventure. beautiful. elan. crazy & life is good.
lille

You'll discover evidence of every little moment of our Lille experience peeking through layers and layers of ephemera, sketches, scribbles, photos, etching and bold face font designs on all 6 papers but our love of all things vintage trumps on the back of each paper where you'll be blessed with some of the best classic vintage backgrounds we've ever made!

post.script.  ~ the lille papers just might find a place in your upcoming valentine's designs.  why?  because once you see them you won't be able to resist them.  trust us... we know these things.  we're gypsies after all!
